George Cunningham (3). Scotland Yet!, The Bonnie Wells O'Wearie ‎(Shellac, 8"). Broadcast (2). .

Bonnie Scotland is a 1935 American film starring Laurel and Hardy, produced by Hal Roach for Hal Roach Studios and directed by James W. Horne. Although the film begins in Scotland, a large part of the action is set in India.

The Bonnie Wells O’ Wearie - The lyrics extolling the attractions of the Wells O’ Wearie are by Alexander Maclagan (1811-1879) and the music by J. C. Grieve (b. 1842). The Wells O’ Wearie were situated at the southern end of Holyrood Park in Edinburgh. With a four-part harmony in the rousing chorus, this song was a great favourite for sentimental harmonising in public houses. Published in 'Scots Minstrelsie' Vol. 6 (J. Greig, 1895).

The Wells of Wearie were one of nearly a dozen sacred and healing wells surrounding legendary Arthur’s Seat at the edge of Edinburgh, and whose waters were also said to have supernatural properties. Shown on James Kirkwood’s 1821 map of Edinburgh (left) as the ‘Well of Wery’, this curiously named site was renowned in earlier centuries as an excellent water supply for the local people - to cure the weary traveller for one. Today, all we have left of them are the small ponds immediately below the road, next to the converted railway line path, just as you come out of the long tunnel. The Wells o’ Wearie -. Sweetly shines the sun on auld Edinbro’ toun. And mak’s her look young and cheerie; Yet I maun awa’ to spend the afternoon At the lanesome Wells o’ Wearie.

The bonnie Wells o' Wearie! Come let us spend a summer day Beside the Wells o' Wearie! The "Lily o' St. Leonards" there Oft spent a sweet May morning, Wi' gowans gay and sweet blue-bells Her golden locks adorning. And there the "Laird o' Dumbiedikes" Aft gaed to woo his dearie, And watch his fleecy flocks wi' care, Beside the Wells o' Wearie! Chorus: There Scotland's Queen in stormy times Forgot her saddest story; There brave Prince Charlie led his clans To deeds o' martial glory. When Johnnie Cope, wi' a' his men Were.

To gang to the Wells o’ Wearie. By the lanesome Wells o’ Wearie. But, Mary, my love, beware ye dinna glower. At your form in the water so clearly, Or the fairy will change you into a wee, wee flower, 15. And you ’ll grow by the Wells o’ Wearie. Yestreen as I wandered there a’ alane, I felt unco douf and drearie, For wanting my Mary, a’ around me was but pain. At the lanesome Wells o’ Wearie
