Biography by Mark Allan. Former leader of Fleetwood Mac on their first three albums of British blues-style rock. full condensed blue highlight denotes album pick.
Learn how Peter Green got his trademark, "out-of-phase" sound from his 1959 Les Paul. So asked Andy Ellis of Peter Green in the November 2000 issue of Guitar Player. The guitar in question was none other than Green’s 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, a legendary instrument that the Fleetwood Mac founder used to write and record many of the group’s seminal blues cuts, including Black Magic Woman, Oh Well and The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Prong Crown). Green’s Les Paul was considered magic for its out-of-phase sound, a nasal tonality missing from the typical Les Paul repertoire. Oddly, Green didn’t think much of the assessment
Peter Green - an all-time great white blues guitarist. Began his career like many other British blues men, in John Mayall's Blues Breakers, where he met Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Founded, led, played guitar and sang in Fleetwood Mac's early phase. Following a long break due to mental stresses, he reemerged in the late '90s with a new band, the Peter Green Splinter Group. Guitar Guy, Guitar Players, El Rock, Classic Rock And Roll, Rock N Roll, Gibson Guitars, Eric Clapton, Gibson Les Paul, Steve Winwood.

His guitar playing is excellent along with his songwriting skills giving him a high place in the Guitar Pantheon. The original Black Magic Woman was changed very little into the ever popular version by Santana, who use Greens'solo structure and buildup basically note for note in their fine-tuned cover. The Green Manalishi which was very heavy rock well before its time is another fine example of Greens vision.
