The third album by Georgia stoner metal outfit Kylesa comes after a trying period in the band's history, following the 2002 death of a founding member with a period of personnel instability that finds the group with a largely remodeled lineup and singer/guitarists Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants the sole remaining original members. Somewhat paradoxically, however, the turmoil seems to have refined and amplified Kylesa's strengths
Their third studio album, Time Will Fuse Its Worth, features a unique mix of emotions and sounds accentuated by the fact that the band contains three singers and two drummers. Alluding to their name, taken from the Buddhist phrase kilesa mara denoting delusory mental states, Time Will Fuse Its Worth mixes the uniqueness factor of so many singers/drummers to create an eccentric album that serves to be one of sludge metal's best. What Kylesa also do remarkably well is build upon layers. The majority of the songs on Time Will Fuse Its Worth continually build upon each other that eventually crescendos into grandiose moments. Take "What Becomes an End," the song features a sludgy slow part midway into the song, before a weird guitar distortion build upon the drum beat almost serving as a solo, before being taken over by a melodic solo by another guitar.
Time Will Fuse It's Worth" is a well constructed album that however gets old pretty fast. Kylesa is an American Stoner Metal band that has received much attention from the Stoner Metal community, later on in the first decade of the new millennium, with albums like "Static Tensions" and "Spiral Shadow". Before the times of popularity, there was "Time Will Fuse It's Worth", an album positioned at the core of the band's discography, being a follow-up to two more obscure and more average sounding albums.
this came out my sophomore year in high school. fucking jammed it in my car all the time. every album is awesome. but the first couple CDs and splits are the best. Shame they only continued playing Hollow Severer live off of this one after releasing Static Tensions and Spiral Shadow.
Time Will Fuse its Worth takes Kylesa to their next step with great tone, and a wall of sound behind it. I think people mistake their sound for tempo, but still to be applied are some of their labels. Fans of drone music may agree that this album sounds sludgy, but it is really very groovy. It's not very original and not moving. Having two drummers isn't something that comes across well on a recording, so any uniqueness they could derive from that is gone. They're just another meh band putting out a meh album - but maybe their other stuff is good.
