I bought two other covers by different artists that didn't seem to gel leaving me still sighing for my old favourite Karl Böhm version to be released. It was a long time coming, and when it was finally published, hearing it all again after an age, it was like greeting an old friend. And here it is in all its splendour.

Опубликовано: 30 янв. 2019 г. Beethoven Fidelio op 72 Overture Beethoven is acknowledged to be one of the giants of classical music. Together with Bach and Johannes Brahms, he is referred to as one of the "three Bs" who epitomize that tradition. He was a pivotal figure in the transition from the 18th century musical classicism to 19th century romanticism, and his influence on subsequent generations of composers was profound. CD - Deutsche Grammophon

Fidelio itself, which Beethoven began in 1804 immediately after giving up on Vestas Feuer, was first performed in 1805 and was extensively revised by the composer for subsequent performances in 1806 and 1814. On 5 November 1955, the Vienna State Opera was re-opened with Fidelio, conducted by Karl Böhm. The first night of Fidelio at the Semperoper in Dresden on 7 October 1989 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the DDR (East Germany) coincided with violent demonstrations at the city's main train station.

Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the most influential and important composers of all time. This album features the landmark symphonies, concertos, chamber music and solo piano music from this giant of music, all performed by the greatest interpreters – Claudio Abbado, Martha Argerich, Wilhelm Kempff, Carlos Kleiber, Rafael Kubelik and many others.
