The O'Grady family, also styled O'Grady of Kilballyowen, is one of Ireland's noble families and surviving Chiefs of the Name. Their title is The O'Grady in English and Ó Grádaigh in Irish. The current Chief of the Name is Joe O'Grady, The O'Grady, who resides in Cardiff, Wales. Talbot O'Farrell (born William Parrot; 27 July 1878 – 2 September 1952) was an English music hall singer (a tenor, whose repertoire included both sentimental and comic songs) and film actor. He was born in the north of England, and worked as a policeman in Hull prior to a career in entertainment. and achieved moderate success as Jock McIver (Scottish comedian and singer), before adopting an Irish persona as Talbot O'Farrell around 1912. He was billed as "The greatest Irish entertainer of all time".

The writer Maggie O’Farrell has chronicled 17 of her own near misses in I Am, I Am, I Am (the title is taken from Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar). These include a haemorrhage during childbirth, miscarriage, childhood encephalitis, amoebic dysentery and an ill-advised leap off a harbour wall into the sea as a teen. Written in self-contained essays, the events recalled here are blips, coincidences, flashes of folly or plain bad luck. Some are startling but later shrugged off; others are lingering and life-changing.

Mother O'Grady of Mulberry Bend. 1896, by T. B. Harms & Co. Words and Music by William Jerome. In a part of the city that's not very pretty, A place they call Mulberry Bend, Lives mother O'Grady, an old Irish lady, Well known there as ev'ry one's friend. Always doing kind favors among her poor neighbors, Her sweet face can daily be found; Sad hearts are made lighter, and homes are made brighter, When mother O'Grady comes 'round.
