Welcome Back is an album by American singer/songwriter John Sebastian, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music). It reached number 79 on The Billboard 200 chart. Two singles were released from the album with the title song "Welcome Back" reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. It also reached number 93 on the Country Singles chart.
Sebastian Philip Bierk (born April 3, 1968), known professionally as Sebastian Bach, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved mainstream success as frontman of Skid Row from 1987 to 1996. He continues a solo career, acted on Broadway, and has made appearances in film and television. The members of Kid Wikkid were based in Peterborough, Ontario.
Released in 1993, Tar Beach is John Sebastian's first album since 1976's Welcome Back, yet it sounds like it could have come out six months later, as if the intervening 17 years had never happened. Very much in the style of Welcome Back or 1974's The Tarzana Kid, Tar Beach is a good-natured, laid-back collection of California-style singer/songwriter pop, somewhere between James Taylor at his most mellow and a less loopy Jimmy Buffett. The songs are at worst inoffensive, but nothing matches Sebastian's best work in the Lovin' Spoonful.
This song is by John Sebastian and appears on the album Tar Beach (1992). Summer's comin' I can feel the heatWe'll burn like butter on the hot concreteDesperation on the city streetLet's drag our blanket up to Tar Beach. Suntan lotion and a cherry cokeThere ain't no ocean but we seem to floatRadio's playing our song - up on the roofSomehow dreams don't seem so outta reachWhen we make magic up on Tar Beach.
i actually saw John Sebastian perform the year this was released. Small venue, i actually got to speak with him for a few mintues. He was absolutely low- key and VERY easy to talk t. really like this c. t surpassed my expectations. This was actually Sebastian's first studio album since "Welcome Back" in 1976, but he played a couple of these songs live when I saw him in 1990. The title song "Tar Beach" is classic pop/rock, and would've been a hit if he had released it back in the 70's. An artist like John Sebastian had no chance at pop success in the 90's, but these songs are just as good as his older stuff.
