Eric Clapton is the debut solo studio album by British rock musician Eric Clapton, released in August 1970 under Atco and Polydor Records. After being successful with bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton recorded an album under his own name in late 1969 and early 1970. The album cover shows Clapton sitting in a room which is going to be decorated and in which a ladder, a chair and some carpets are placed.

The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London, and is one of the UK's most treasured and distinctive buildings. The Hall is a registered charity held in trust for the nation, and receives no public or government funding. Since the hall's opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world's leading artists from many performance genres have appeared on its stage.

Since making his debut on 7 December 1964 as part of the Yardbirds, the legendary guitarist has surpassed an unfathomable 200 Hall performances, marked 50 years of music, and celebrated his 70th birthday here in 2015. Clapton’s career as a professional musician has seen him create an abundance of albums with numerous bands, tour countless sold out shows worldwide, amass an impressive array of accolades and earn himself unwavering critical acclaim.

The 1994 Albert Hall residency was an all-blues show as well. Later in the year, Eric Clapton entered the studio to record an all-blues album, From The Cradle made up of blues standards by Eric’s musical heroes. In May 1994, Clapton performed a solo acoustic concert at New York’s Lincoln Center to benefit the . He then hit the road playing all-blues shows around the world, including a number of small club dates in America. Clapton's blues tour continued through 1995

Eric Clapton booked a series of shows at his beloved venue the Royal Albert Hall in May of 2015, choosing to document this stint via a concert film and an accompanying album, both called Slowhand at 70: Live at the Royal Albert Hall. This is not the first live album of Clapton's to be recorded at the Royal Albert Hall - 1991's 24 Nights documented a near month-long residency at the London hall - and, generally, this performance does have a familiar feel, thanks in part to the set and in part to Clapton playing with a band who has been.
