He is best known for his 1972 single "Soul Makossa".

With Dibango hailed as one of the early originators of the world music scene, this album does a good job of looking over the years prior to his mainstream breakout with "Soul Makossa" (1973). In reality, Dibango was playing in the 1950s, but the album only goes back as far as 1967 because it's that area of time that he really began stepping out with his own sounds
