Gregory Isaacs, Roots Radics. In any other hands, this seductive classic would be little more than a parody of romance, for no-one but Gregory Isaacs could offer up these lyrics and not only keep a straight face, but make them sound absolutely convincing. The singer is certainly in a state, his heart broken in two and in need of immediate medical attention. However, surgery is not the answer, what he requires is the round the clock care of the fairer sex, a 24 hour "Night Nurse"

Backing Band – The Roots Radics. Written-By – Gregory Isaacs, Sylvester Weise. Black type on white cassette shell. Night Nurse ‎(LP, Album).

Night Nurse' is Gregory Isaacs' signature album; possibly the best thing he ever did. I remember friends who had it on vinyl in the 80's but I was never able to get a copy (not easy in Australia where we were lucky to get Bob!). This one I had to have - if it ain't in your collection then you ain't serious!!! Gregory's amazing smooth-as-silk vocals together with muso's from reggae heaven have turned most of the tracks on this album into classics  . Gregory Isaacs backed by the Roots Radics was always a much sought after item in my CD library. Published on July 20, 2016.

Call The Night ‘Night Nurse’: Gregory Isaacs’ Seductive Classic Has The Cure. Subtle and seductive, the man they called The Cool Ruler doesn’t put a foot wrong on ‘Night Nurse’, an album to cure the lovesick blues. Published on. July 25, 2018. Self-produced, Night Nurse the album presents a supremely confident operator, singing over a just-enough rub-a-dub background delivered by the Roots Radics. It’s a crafty, Pavlov’s dog production strategy calculated to leave fans salivating. Isaacs doesn’t fuss anywhere on Night Nurse. Nothing rises above a steamy simmer; even ‘Hot Stepper’ doesn’t boil – he can dance to a slow tune just as strongly, it seems.

Gregory Isaacs, an already established name in reggae, released Night Nurse in 1982, and the decision to include electronic elements and secular lyrics showed the decline of roots reggae at the time, and the birth of dancehall. Even from the first track, the eponymous Night Nurse, it is easy to see how Gregory managed to get the title of "most exquisite voice in reggae" from Milo Miles from the New York Times. The backing music may seem different to a roots reggae fan, as the traditional horns are completely absent from this album, being replaced by laid back synth melodies and the occasional guitar lick.

Gregory Isaacs, who has died of cancer aged 59, was one of reggae music's most popular singers. Known as the Cool Ruler for his exceptionally suave and emotive voice, Isaacs scored many hits during the 1970s and 80s, including the perennial favourite Night Nurse, and remained active as a recording artist, live performer and producer in the decades that followed. Although best known for romantic ballads, delivered with a hint of vulnerability, he also excelled at songs of social protest and work that expressed unwavering pride in his African heritage. Both albums were backed by the Roots Radics band, with whom Isaacs toured the UK in 1980-81. Night Nurse (1982), issued by Island, was his most commercially successful set to date, but just as he reached a pinnacle of popularity, problems arose.
