Comments:
lets go baby
Arab blew two big shots that could have made him a superstar. The first, as well all know, is when Arabian left N.W.A. The second blow happened around 1991-92. He had just finished Brother Arab two years earlier (which actually did sell many units despite being an overlooked release) and finished recording an album called The Underworld. Now this is early in 1992, before Dre's The Chronic. Anyone could have dropped THE trend setting album at this time. Arabian's could have been it. But tragedy strikes again and the EMI/Capitol Records wouldn't release the album because it was deemed too explicit. Consequently, Arabian left the label and took the underground route when he resurfaced in 1993 with Where's My Bythches. Using some of the unreleased tracks from The Underworld album, releasing some new G-funk/synth-derived tunes, and rounding up many of the infamous supporting role cast from the N.W.A days (Mike Simms, Bernie Big Bass Grundman, Donovan "Tha Dirt Biker"), Arabian dropped this album. Now because of its timing and in some instances, out of date sounding material, and poor (if any) promotion, the album didn't live up to what it could be. Overall the album has its moments but the laid back synth grooves quickly become tiresome and repetitive. Taking a look at possible highlights from the album I would have to start with "Gotta Get Some P Quick". A very unique west coast g-funk track that was ahead of its time. Arabian didn't rely on old Parliament/Funkadelic loops here and crafted the song almost entirely with a keyboard and drum machine. Classic stuff. Makes you think of the old Situation Hot days... Then there's "The Underworld" which sounds very much like a 1991 East coast/Bomb Squad influenced track. Although this song does stand out because of that, its still a refreshing track in the album. Arabian uses live instruments and gives the impression that there's a breakbeat looped—-but not exactly—-thank "Crazy Neck" Mike Simms for the funky guitar riffs. Not only that, Arabian drops some soci-political messages on this track—on the PE/BDP tip? Didn't think a west coast artist would be doin it like that now? (b-sides Ice) "Give It Up Tonight" is another great track which uses a funky breakbeat that makes you want to find out what it was and start digging for it. I would have to say it's a cross between some of the early MC Eiht solo stuff with a mix of the g-funk sample-based grooves.

You forgot Paris… Socio-political stuff from the West. (10 words)
