Beggars Banquet is the seventh British and ninth American studio album by English rock band The Rolling Stones. It was released in December 1968 by Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States. The album marked a change in direction for the band following the psychedelic pop of their previous two albums, Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request.
Police confront a beggar. Picture: Jason EdwardsSource:News Corp Australia. A woman, pictured in a video last month on news. au, was allegedly part of the scam. The Herald Sun reports the beggars are flown in from China to work on the streets. They are allegedly put up in city hostels. When police raided them this week, they had Chinese passports and tourist visas. The study, conducted by the Salvation Army, found nine out of 135 beggars interviewed admitted to being professionals. That was about six days a week, and so he saw that as a very profitable way of earning income.
Their fourth album, Beggar on a Beach of Gold, did not appear until 1995. It yielded both a UK top 40 hit in the title track, and a number 12 hit in "Over My Shoulder". The latter, which was their first hit to be co-written by Carrack, became arguably their most aired song on British radio. Their run of successes was capped with 1996's Hits, which compiled most of their hit singles with a new reworking of "All I Need is a Miracle" that reached number 27 in the UK, a higher placing than that of the original version. The album was certified platinum in the UK within two. Shortly after, Carrack became too involved with solo work to devote time to the group. In a 2007 interview Rutherford stated that Mike + The Mechanics had "run its course.
Beggars Opera - Time Machine; from album Waters Of Change (1971). This band was from Scotland, their name is derived from a novel by the poet John Gray in 1728. The musicians of BEGGARS OPERA were Martin Griffiths (vocals), Rick Gardiner (guitar and vocals), Alan Park (keyboards), Gordon Sellar (bass, acoustic guitar and vocals), Virginia Scott (Mellotron and vocals) and Raymond Wilson (drums and percussion). BEGGARS OPERA made a lot of records but remained acting in the shade of most progressive rock bands. Here the vocals of Martin Griffiths (which don't always work) and the subtle guitar work of Ricky Gardiner come into play. Although there are 9 tracks listed here, the album's core is 5 strong pieces. Beggar's Opera is not one of those slick "audiophile" prog groups. indeed there are rough edges to this album. I don't think it needs any smoothing out though.
