The template for many pub-rock bands, The Rumour were the backing band for Graham Parker but they issued at least one album without him. They played an eclectic mix of rock, swing, country, reggae and what used to be called R&B. The band were Bob Andrews, Martin Belmont, Andrew Bodnar, Stephen Goulding and Brinsley Schwarz. They sounded like they did with Graham Parker but with less edginess.

Metro's Not Just a Rumour, More a Way of Life is a tremendous compilation of the Rumour's recordings for Stiff. Spanning 23 tracks on a single disc, this has the bulk of the albums and singles, with a couple of good rarities thrown in for good measure. This winds up being a wonderful summation of the band's strengths - they were a good, poppy rock & roll band, similar to Nick Lowe, Rockpile, Any Trouble, and, of course, Graham Parker, and this is the way to hear them at their best, even if you already have the albums.
10. 11. I Want To Make You Very Happy.
