Blood Wedding (Spanish: Bodas de sangre) is a tragedy by Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca. It was written in 1932 and first performed at Teatro Beatriz in Madrid in March 1933, then later that year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Theatre critics often group Blood Wedding with Lorca's Yerma and The House of Bernarda Alba as the "rural trilogy"  . In 1964, Vérnász, an operatic adaptation of the play with a score by Hungarian composer Sándor Szokolay, was first produced in Budapest. The opera has been produced again in the years since

10 October 1923, Budapest – 23 October 2008, Budapest. Success and triumph lasts in the lives of performing artists among them especially singers only until they are on stage and the audience can meet them daily. Following the termination of their artistic careers singers are slowly forgotten by the audience and colleagues, the lucky ones become living legends who do not participate in musical life anymore. Judit Sándor belongs to the rare exceptions. She played the title roles of several new Hungarian operas: in the C'est la guerre of Petrovics, in the Vérnász (Blood Wedding) of Szokolay, in the Huszti kaland (Adventure at Huszt) of Pál Kadosa, in the Tartuffe of György Kósa and in the musical dramas of Ferenc Farkas.

In 1964 Sándor Szokolay adapted Lorca's play Blood Wedding into an opera, Vérnász, first produced in Budapest. Wolfgang Fortner also wrote an operatic adaptation of Blood Wedding using a German translation by Enrique Beck, Die Bluthochzeit (1957). In 1968, Joan Baez sang translated renditions of García Lorca's poems, "Gacela of the Dark Death" and "Casida of the Lament" on her spoken-word poetry album, Baptism: A Journey Through Our Time. American experimental folk-jazz musician Tim Buckley released an album called Lorca which included a song of the same name
