A Man and His Music is a 1965 double album by Frank Sinatra. It provides a brief retrospective of Sinatra's musical career. The album won the 1967 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Earl Robinson, who wrote the music, also had very liberal views. During the McCarthy era, he was hounded for being a communist and blacklisted from Hollywood, making it hard for him to find work. Before his death in 1991, he wrote presidential campaign songs for FDR (1944), Henry Wallace (1948), and Jesse Jackson (1984). Sinatra appeared in a 10-minute short for RKO, also titled The House I Live In, where he lectured a group of boys on racial and religious tolerance. Written by Albert Maltz, produced by Frank Ross and directed by Mervyn LeRoy, the film won a special Honorary Academy Award in 1946. Sal Pellegrino from Inverness Fl, FlThis song should be played to every man woman abd child in this wonderful country we need everyone to pull together to get over these rough times. Tom from Wilmington, Nc This was a very nice and enjoyable free trip for me. Thanks for the lyrics and the movie.

The House I Live In," Frank Sinatra (1946). Frank Sinatra released this song calling for tolerance in 1946. He also starred in an accompanying 10-minute film short, which received an honorary Academy Award in 1945. In the film, Sinatra, then nearing 30, confronts a group of school-age bullies who are ganging up on a boy because he's Jewish. The song was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Lewis Allan and Earl Robinson (one of the writers of "Ballad for Americans") co-wrote the song, which Sinatra kept in his repertoire for decades

LyricsA Man's a Man For A' That.

Earl Hawley Robinson (July 2, 1910 – July 20, 1991) was a composer, arranger and folk music singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington. Robinson is remembered for his music, including the cantata "Ballad for Americans" and songs such as "Joe Hill" and "Black and White", which expressed his left-leaning political views. He wrote many popular songs and music for Hollywood films. He was a member of the Communist Party from the 1930s to the 1950s. The jazz clarinetist Perry Robinson is his son.

This album - which is practically a greatest-hits collection for Earl Robinson - has something of a split personality. The first half is devoted to his best-known work in Hollywood, while the second half is a showcase for his non-movie songwriting and some of his best singing. In 1945, Robinson and Millard Lampell wrote a group of songs to be used in the feature film A Walk in the Sun, directed and produced independently by Lewis Milestone. his music for A Walk in the Sun, accompanied by his own guitar. With the exception of "Ballad of the Lead Platoon" and "Waiting," nothing here runs even two minutes, but this is still a pretty full menu of material, borrowing from folk and gospel traditions in its music and lyrics, though all presented with a topical, activist edge of a true believer in the causes of the people and the workers.
