Though the band’s sound had beguns to enter the horrific, kinetic tone that it would champion from here on, on Vile it retains some of the insulated basement-track production of Cannibal’s early releases. While some bands have a sophomore slump, Cannibal Corpse used their second album to up the ante on everything that made them unique. On Butchered At Birth, the band’s riffs and song structure are bizarre and wonky, their production is simultaneously buried and harsh, and their subject matter trades typical horror fodder for more upsetting, ed imagery and topics.

Notes"Cannibal Corpse" is the debut demo of the Buffalo Death Metal band Cannibal Corpse.
It is the predecessor to Cannibal Corpse's debut full-length album "Eaten Back To Life" and all the songs were re-recorded for that album.
The correct title of the demo actually is "Cannibal Corpse".
According to the first song on it the release is commonly referred to as "A Skull Full Of Maggots" or simply "The Demo" among Cannibal Corpse collectors and fans.
The cassette covers feature a photo of the early band and artwork created by Chris Barnes. The covers are printed in a single color on plain cardstock.
No lyrics or credits came with the tapes.
The recording was exclusively released on cassette tapes in two production runs of 100 units for a total of only 200 tapes (100 with white background; 100 with red background). The cassettes were cheaply produced, and many of them appear to be made from second hand or rejected cassette stocks. Often faded titles of other band's albums are visible.
Most of the copies were simply given out at shows and traded or passed among fans. The few original cassettes that still exist are prized by fans and hoarded by collectors of Cannibal Corpse memorabilia.
The original recordings of the songs were later featured on Cannibal Corpse's 2003 Box Set "15 Year Killing Spree".
