This Marcus Roberts solo piano CD features Christmas-related material, all performed in a relaxed manner. Roberts rarely wanders far from the melody and his lefthand stride work, although impressive, never really cuts loose. The pleasant recital is overly respectful and thoughtful, and it would have benefited from the inclusion of a few stomps (such as "Jingle Bells").

Prayer For Peace (1991).

This album is now on my list of Christmas albums to give to other family members - it is really that special. The only drawback is that perhaps the piano used in the recording could have been better quality. I'm not sure if the sound was intentional or a result of not being able to record at a better level. Magnificent! The harder you listen to it the more incredible it sounds- the sign of great playing.

Marthaniel "Marcus" Roberts (born August 7, 1963) is an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and teacher. Roberts was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Blind since the age of five due to glaucoma and cataracts, he attended the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida, the alma mater of blind pianist Ray Charles.
