Written-By – Bilal S. Oliver (tracks: 11), Derrick Hodge (tracks: 10, 13), Fabian Almazan (tracks: 5, 9), Kendrick Scott (tracks: 4, 14), Terence Blanchard (tracks: 3, 8, 15), Walter Smith III (tracks: 1, 7). Notes. Recorded at The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA, March 5-8, 2009.

In the wake of Terence Blanchard's 2008 Grammy Award-winning album "A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina)," the New Orleans-based trumpeter/composer embarks on a new, dramatic song cycle that plumbs the depths of personal and societal decision-making. In addition to his band, "Choices" features special guests: Lionel Loueke provides imaginative guitar parts, Dr. Cornel West delivers provocative spoken-word interludes, and vocalist Bilal sings on a pair of R&B beauties

Choices is composer and trumpeter Terence Blanchard's debut recording on the Concord label. And in a career with filled with many shifts and changes, it may be the most radical of all. It features his longtime cohorts, pianist Fabian Almazan, Derrick Hodge on bass, drummer Kendrick Scott, and Lionel Loueke on guitar. Saxophonist Walter Smith III joins the band here as well. In addition there are spoken word readings by intellectual, author, philosopher, and activist Dr. Cornel West, and vocals by neo-soul singer Bilal

Choices (Terence Blanchard album). The idea for Choices was generated by conversations between Blanchard and Herbie Hancock during their joint tour in Fall 2008. The album is a loose sequel to Blanchard's previous Grammy-winning 2007 record, A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina). Choices centers on broader questions about free will and personal responsibility. On several compositions the album features the voice of Cornel West, a notable socialist philosopher, civil rights activist, critic, and teacher of both religion and African. American studies at Princeton University

With over 50 film scores under his belt, trumpeter Terence Blanchard knows a thing or two about creating atmospheric settings, and well-crafted phrases. Firmly rooted in the straight-ahead jazz tradition, his work is rich though not always known for being especially adventurous. Yet Blanchard’s playing has a bright vibrancy which spars with and interrogates the harmonic implications within this music. Understanding that less is sometimes more, he’s frugal when it comes to dispensing choruses, usually leaving the listener wanting more  . The album also features the voice of Dr Cornel West, the noted philosopher, writer, critic and teacher of both religion and African American studies at Princeton University, or as Time magazine recently called him: one complex dude.

Live is an album by American jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard. The album was released on April 20, 2018 via Blue Note label. Just as the preceding album Breathless, the present record explores the painful themes of racism, gun violence, and hate in the modern America. The E-Collective includes Blanchard on trumpet, playing alongside guitarist Charles Altura, pianist Fabian Almazan, drummer Oscar Seaton, and bassist David DJ Ginyard. The "Live" tour also featured Tondrae Kemp on vocals.

Terence Blanchard: Choices. N ew Orleans trumpeter Blanchard is a superb, clean-toned player with a highly conversational group feel, as he showed last May at Ronnie Scott's with a group that also included this album's pianist and drummer, the excellent Fabian Almazan and Kendrick Scott. Ordinarily, I can do without spoken word on jazz albums, and this session's music is built around a series of interview quotes on love and justice from the African-American socialist philosopher, and civil rights activist Dr Cornel West.

Choices is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard. The album was released on August 18, 2009 via Concord Jazz and Universal Music Group International labels. Background - The idea for Choices was generated by conversations between Blanchard and Herbie Hancock during their. Choices (Terence Blanchard album).

Jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard is a throwback to the socially engaged jazzman of the 1960s: He's as wrapped up in politics and society as he is in scales and improvisation. His new album, Choices, ponders questions about free will and personal responsibility. Terence Blanchard: Free Will And 'Choices'.
