After Dark (Dick Morrissey album). After Dark is a solo album by Dick Morrissey.

Richard Edwin Morrissey (9 May 1940 – 8 November 2000) was a British jazz musician and composer. He played the tenor sax, soprano sax and flute. Dick Morrissey emerged in the early 1960s in the wake of Tubby Hayes, Britain’s pre-eminent sax player at the time.

This album is lesser known to its 1985 preceder, as is the line-up for the band, which features guitarist Marshall Rohner in the place of Steven Hufsteter. The album featured fewer elements of blues, and featured more acoustic songs ("Small Town Love", "Time for Waiting") and even experimented with pop-rock ("I Want Your World to Turn") and folk rock ("Road of Truth").

After Dark found Andy Gibb beginning to run out of steam. The album was very similar stylistically to its predecessor, Shadow Dancing, but it didn't have as consistent a set of songs. Nevertheless, there were a number of fine moments on the record, including the singles "Desire" and "I Can't Help It," that made it worthwhile for dedicated fans, even if it was clear that Gibb's career would not be able to survive in the post-disco era.

Morrissey started his career as a lead singer for punk bands. He formed Sulky Young (renamed The Tee Shirts) and later joined The Nosebleeds (formed in the early 1970s under the name Wild Ram) with Billy Duffy (The Cult), replacing Ed Banger and Vini Reilly. However, in his autobiography Morrissey denied ever being a member of The Nosebleeds. He claims that Duffy recruited him after the break up of The Nosebleeds and they wrote songs together. For their live performances they hadn't decided on a band name

After Dark 's other acts approach the compilation's dusky Italo aesthetic from similar perspectives. New Jersey-based Professor Genius homes in on the dystopian synth work of Vangelis and the upbeat expressiveness of Alexander Robotnick on instrumentals "La Grotta (Demo)" and album-closing "Pegaso". For plenty more reverence, look to the album's cover versions. Though occasionally distracting, After Dark 's updates of older compositions are good signposts: Glass Candy's relatively direct take on Kraftwerk's essential 1981 "Computer Love", or a lavishly orchestrated rendition of Paris-based Eurodisco group Belle Epoque's 1977 "Miss Broadway" (later sampled by rapper Special Ed on 1990's "Come On, Let's Move It").
