The Bird and the Bee (stylized as the bird and the bee) is an American indie pop musical duo from Los Angeles, consisting of Inara George ("the bird") and Greg Kurstin ("the bee"). Kurstin-a seven time Grammy Award winning producer and t who has worked with artists including Sia, Adele, Beck, Kendrick Lamar, and the Foo Fighters. George and Kurstin met while the two were working on her debut album and they decided to collaborate on a jazz-influenced electropop project.

His sound is partly influenced by Folk Punk artists like Al Baker and Frank Turner, as well as contemporary Scottish indie pop groups like The Vaselines, The Pearlfishers and Arab Strap. Richards began writing music seriously in 2005, at which time he was a member of Glaswegian Grunge-Rock act Stacked Actors, until a move to Ayr in September 2007 forced him to leave the band in December of that year.
