Past, Present and Future is Al Stewart's fifth studio album, released in October 1973 in the UK and in May 1974 in the US. This album is considered Stewart's first "major album" and it reached on the Billboard Rock Album chart in 1974. He had taken on a different approach from his previous, folkier work, an approach that would stay with him for most of his career. All songs on this record have historical themes, each song representing a decade of the 20th century.
Alastair Ian Stewart (born 5 September 1945) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician who rose to prominence as part of the British folk revival in the 1960s and 1970s. He developed a unique style of combining folk-rock songs with delicately woven tales of characters and events from history. Stewart is best known for his 1976 hit single "Year of the Cat", the title song from the platinum album of the same name.

Although Stewart recorded "Nostradamus" nearly three decades before September 11, he appears to have been taken in by other spurious claims, such as references to the rise of Hitler and the Kennedy assassination. That being said, music is art not science, and this epic song, which runs to nearly 10 minutes, is one of his masterpieces. When he played this live, unaccompanied, Stewart would showcase his fretboard wizardry to the full.

Al Stewart - Warren Harding Warren Harding Al Stewart. According to the Nostradamus Songfacts, Michel de Nostredame, known universally as Nostradamus, was a 16th Century French mystic. He is best known for his quatrains which are considered by today's mystics as astounding prophecies but are regarded by skeptics as at worst gibberish and at best as so nebulous they could be interpreted to mean practically anything. The Last Day of June 1934.
Al Stewart was part of the late sixties British folk revival and kept some heady company in his early career, including sharing a London apartment with a youthful Paul Simon and hosting at the legendary Les Cousins folk club. His second release, Love Chronicles, was infamous for two reasons: the title track recounted serial sexual encounters over a fulsome 18 minutes and was the first ever mainstream recording to include the F-word. I sat cross-legged as Al Stewart toured this album at a solo college gig in the autumn of ’73 and there was no doubt how captivating Nostradamus sounded live. It also had the effect of sending post-Hippy English students scurrying to the library to check out the man in the title and gave rise to a short-lived yet criminal over-use of the phrase, Far out, man.
