With CHIMERIC, Radian merges the live and the processed even more, as "Git Cut Noise" dives into much more confrontational space, with isolated stabs before the track explodes with an all-encompassing guitar fuzz and feedback. Feedbackmikro/City Lights" starts out spare but actually develops something close to a melody over its run time, while "Chimera" drifts until it reaches its rousing conclusion

Subcolors It had been four years since "Juxtaposition", our last record and one year of a self-chosen absence from the stage, that we met again to work on "Chimeric". This break was a necessary step to leave any routine behind us, to restructure the working process, to rethink the concept of this band and its music. Chimeric" is not a polished album. Within our context it is raw, broken, even dark sometimes.
Radian - Chimeric The Austrian experimental trio Radian initially sounds as if they're some sort of abstract post-rock group. Except that the track keeps sputtering and stuttering, wrenching itself off its own rails in surprisingly compelling fashion. The rest of Chimeric is much further from anything that could honestly be considered rock, but a lot of the album's interest lies in the way it never really belongs to any one genre or sound from minute to minute.
Chimeric is relatively looser and less dense, owing to more reliance on live interaction. While it's arguable how loose the micro-managing trio allowed themselves to become during mixing, since recordings were re-organized and spliced together as if working with a tape machine, Chimeric sounds like the product of less tense and more spacious recording sessions. The band considers the record raw, broken, and unpolished, but they have nothing to be apologetic about. Unlike Re. xtern and Juxtaposition, Chimeric was not recorded with producer and Tortoise drummer John McEntire.
Austrian synth-bass-drums trio Radian has been making austere, arty post-rock (remember when that was a thing?) music since the late '90s. But unlike Tortoise or other, related acts, Radian has never seemed particularly interested in human concepts of beauty. In a way, their stark instrumental tracks recall Autechre more than any ordinary band - alienation is as much a goal as a consequence of their steadily pulsing, jagged music.
