Dobson went on extended hiatus in the early '70s, only to re-emerge some 40-odd years later with 2014's unexpected album of all-new recordings Take Me for a Walk in the Morning Dew. She's Like a Swallow was Dobson's debut, originally released in 1960 on Prestige Records. The 14 selections here, all expertly recorded by industry legend Rudy Van Gelder, find Dobson's soaring voice and spare acoustic guitar accompaniment running through classics of public domain folk tunes and standards.
In New York she recorded her first albums – 'She's Like A Swallow And Other Folk Songs' and 'Dear Companion'. Like many other upcoming folk musicians of the time Bonnie Dobson frequently played at Gerde's Folk City. In 1962 'At Folk City' was recorded there and among the songs on that album was Morning Dew. The song's lyrics graced the cover of the topical song magazine, 'Broadside', that same year under the title Take Me For A Walk. Also in 1962, Dobson put out another album for Prestige Records, 'A Merry Go Round Of Children's.

Dobson is too modest to mention that she went to Folkways after rehearsals at Gerdes Folk City with Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs – the three of them having an acoustic face-off in the tiny basement. She has also re-recorded it on her new album Take Me For A Walk In The Morning De. Thereafter she left Canada and moved to London, but didn’t chime with the English folk scene. She became an academic administrator at Birkbeck College.

And now, after another bout of gentle persuasion, this time from the Hornbeam team responsible for reviving Tom Paley's career, she has teamed up with a younger band (referred to as "my boys") to record a new album. This was their first public outing, at an exquisite church near Tottenham Court Road. Coming on stage over an hour late, there were inevitable rough edges, but the lineup, featuring electric guitar and fiddle, matched well against Dobson's sturdy acoustic guitar work, and she surprised with her power and range
