Shop Vinyl and CDs and complete your DJ Edge collection. I would also mention that rabbit city put out a single sided remix of panic at the same time. Some version of that later had the same panic remix on both sided. If anything I would have thought that rabbit city put out The Remix and Panic Remix. Just my guess though, I got them both when they were first released and they have always been next to each other in my collection like twins :-) Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

Tbh it could be a few people...if you listen to the SMD series by Slipmatt, it could well have been him on this remix simular to his productions if you ask me

I would also mention that rabbit city put out a single sided remix of panic at the same time. Some version of that later had the same panic remix on both sided. As I remember it the first track came out for DJ Edge and was being played up in late 1992. By the end if 1993 there was the happy hardcore scene with its own clubs and DJs didn't have enough new tracks to play. Panic on rabbit city and the original of this track where being played but soon the sets where too fast to fit this in. This remix was then released about the same time as the Panic remix but both where too slow by the time they got into the shops. They got played when they came out but not after the first couple of weeks. I had the one sided version and never saw the double sided version when it first came out. I always assumed the remix was by DJ Edge. It must have been someone into happy hardcore who knew the original was being played again in clubs. It doesn't sound like Grant Neilson and Vibes to me and I would say it was DJ Edge as my best guess. I doubt it would have been back to basics as they had nothing to do with the happy scene. As for the connection with the same distributor and pressing. Well there was only few distributors and mastering houses that did all dance music in the uk. It's a good track I gust wish they had made it faster, I would have to slow my whole set down to play it with tracks released at the same time.

A thought occurred to me about the two different presses of this, (I’ve had copies of each at some point). The pressings I’m talking about are:1. Single-sided press2. Double-sided press - same track on both sidesI’ve seen a couple of different sources (including some of the comments here) claim that this was connected to the Back 2 Basics label (Jason Ball/DJ Nexus etc…). The single-sided press would seem to support this, as it is pressed on a thin vinyl exactly like the early Back 2 Basics releases. The label quality and ridges around the centre hole are also the same. Back to Basics were keen on single-sided releases at this time too, with #2 #3 and #7R all being single-sided.The double-sided version however is pressed on a thicker vinyl with different quality labels, and came in a sleeve with rounded edges just like other Edge releases at the time. The quality and feel of this vinyl is the same as other Edge releases too.So here’s my theory: Could it be possible that the single-sided release was pressed up as an unofficial remix by Back 2 Basics with a limited run of 500, and the double-sided release was pressed up by DJ Edge? In a nutshell, he bootlegged an unofficial remix of his own tune in order that he would get something back from it?It would certainly explain why there seems to be so many copies of this kicking around. That could be bollocks of course, and maybe it’s just my imagination running wild. But it’s a thought…

Still In Mind
I like how your imagination works and this would have been fair to both parties. If the sound quality isn't as good on the double sided version that would also support your theory. If the sound quality is the same then the same person pressed both versions or DJ Edge got hold of the DAT of the bootleg, which is unlikely. Either way it's a wicked remix that comes close to the oriiginal which is saying something as it's one of my top 3 old skool tracks ever.

Top 5 track from 93! Everyone loves this remix! :)

Interesting to take into account all of the (very strong & decent arguments to it's origins by everyone below) & mix the stories all in to one single-sided EP that there must be some truth in there somewhere...I also pressed Dj Edge on it at the time on his visit to Oz to no avail & just a smile "oh THAT track" he laughed, but the main thing it definately caused the rukus & ill-feeling behind the scenes for it to be kept quiet THIS long...either way, TOP REMIX whoever it was by & big respect to them for producing this excellent tune for the masses not their ego!

while listening to some old tunes I notice that the words I need something stronger could of actually been sampled from this track, EON - Infinity (Space/Time Mix)

I was told in a conversation I had with Jason Ball who ran the Back to Basics record label & shop back in the late 90's that he in fact did this remix, I have no reason not to believe him.

Looking back on it now this really screams of Vibes and Wishdoctor to me? It could be a precursor to the Naughty Naughty series. The evidence is there, same pressing plant, same distributor, and the production is so similar when you really listen to it.

At the date of this comment 404 discogs members have this.. Maybe time to accept that slightly more than 500/600 were pressed/released?!

it was repressed ;) probably many times! I have 2 copies i love it so much! :)

Yeah I was just thinking this... I was 14 when this came out and most of my mates had a copy. Such a good mix though.

Maybe more time to accept that not only on wax existing collections are listed here...

I just read on some forum that this was Nexus & Blowback? Now if it was remotely Dj SS I would not be surprised as he did sample the original quite a bit in his tunes in 1993, but whether it was or not will still remain a mystery!

Not much to say because the guys below me have given more than enough information about this tune than i ever new, i wouldnt of know about what went on reguarding its release had it not been for this great site and those who can be botherd to comment. i purchased mine soon as it came out from a place in hanley, called GLOBAL GROOVE, i hope some 1 one day soon tells us more, like who is the artist, Great Remix, and has always been heavily played at my home since...

From industry gossip at the time this was an in house re-edit of Compnded and is by the artist DJ Edge though not neccesarily edited by him. Due to the distributor (P&D deal) not paying the label in a timely manner, they said they cannot press up anymore of their releases. This was bad timing as 'Compnded', after floating for a while, had now blown up massively and they had a cash in remix of it ready to go. The Dist decided to go ahead anyway. So, it is an unofficial release put out by the official distributor. This naturally caused quite a stink and led to the cancelling of the contract. It was agreed not to sue and the first 500 copies were allowed to be forgotten about as long as they did not press anymore up.Which they did, big time. This should rightly be credited to 'DJ Edge' and not 'Unknown Artist', which is insulting.

Lukus is indeed correct on the bootleg front (hello partner in crime!). From what I heard at the time, and working in a record shop that delt with Mo's, it came from the west country. Vinyl Distribution were also knocking it out as well, and they informed me that Donovan Badboy Smith and Yolk - Sunnyside Up crew had a finger in the making of it...

One of the best mash ups of all time - rough and ready, just as bootlegs should be. There's been a lot of conjecture about who's to blame for the release. For my money, it's got some similarities with Vibe / Wishdockta releases, though who really knows? Keep it hardcore!

sorry to dissapoint, but this IS a bootleg.i new and recorded with gordon matthewman round the time of this being released, and i can tell you this caused a lot of stress...between the label and distributors alike.it was never actually said who was responsible for this bootleg, and it was thought that mo's music machine (the distributor who handled the bootleg)only sold 600 out of 1000 due to litagating circumstances between them and edge records...

This is a wicked remix of the tune. Very sought after! I had my suspicions if it belonged to this label, but I believed it was, as they had even gone to the trouble of using the same rounded corner sleeve of the original!
