A City by the Light Divided is the fourth studio album by Thursday, released by Island Records on May 2, 2006. Following a number of issues regarding promotion and lack of communication with independent label Victory Records, Thursday announced they had signed to major label Island Records in May 2002. With the signing being made official in September, the group began working on material for their third album in November. Starting in January 2003, recording sessions lasted six months.

Kill the House Lights is a compilation album by New Jersey rock group Thursday. The name of the record derives from a lyric from the song "M. Shepard" from the band's 2003 album War All the Time. The CD features five new songs, two live recordings, a couple of outtakes, and three demos. The DVD features interviews and a concert, which was filmed on December 27, 2006, at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. They recorded their smaller show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ the next day.
Thursday released their fourth album, A City by the Light Divided, in 2006, and two further albums, Common Existence and No Devolución, before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. In a January 2013 interview, Geoff Rickly confirmed that the band had actually disbanded. However, the band announced a reunion in 2016. In October of 2018, the band announced their reunion would conclude with a performance at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY on March 17, 2019.
Listen free to Thursday – A City By The Light Divided (The Other Side Of The Crash/Over And Out (Of Control), Counting 5-4-3-2-1 and more). A City by the Light Divided is the fourth full-length album by Thursday, released by Island Records on May 2, 2006.
Album Name A City by the Light Divided. 8. Telegraph Avenue Kiss. 10. Into the Blinding Light. 11. Autumn Leaves Revisited. 12. Counting 5-4-3-2-1 (Multimedia Track).
Songs: The Other Side of the Crash, Over and Out (Of Control), Counting 5-4-3-2-1, Sugar in the Sacrament, At This Velocity, We Will Overcome, Arc-Lamps, Signal Flares, a Shower of White (The Light).
And considering they were teetering on a breakup before this album was yet a notion, fans should feel even luckier at the arrival of their expansive fourth full-length, A City by the Light Divided. The same dismal and dark atmosphere that pervaded War All the Time is back, but this time with a sliver of faint hope appearing amidst the incessant urban sprawl of outward despair. Death, love, desolation, growth, and hope are the touchstones for personal lyrical content, as a literate Geoff Rickly reflects on the band's existence and his own.
Light Divided also feature such sharp contrasts. Running From The Rain really doesn’t have any of that, it slowly builds and falls from verse to chorus. This makes the song seem like it probably shouldn’t be on the album, it’s a pretty good song with some powerful lyrics such as: So we forgot our names lying in the tall grass underneath the billboard dreams. But it just falls short of expectations. Telegraph Avenue Kiss opens up with some strong lyrics then is joined by the rest of the band in a mid tempo march into and energy filled chorus. You can compare A City By The LIght Divided to their previous releases with skepticism and claim it’s not really Thursday. My opinion is that this album is Thursday’s heart and soul, that even though some of the tracks fall slightly short of perfection, the ones that do hit the mark hit it high and make every second of this album worth a listen.
