Produced by Mike Mogis. Your class, your caste, your country, sect, your name or your tribe There's people always dying, trying to keep 'em alive There's bodies decomposing in containers tonight In an abandoned building where. A squatter's made a mural of a Mexican girl With fifteen cans of spray paint and a chemical swirl She's standing in the ashes at the end of the world Four winds blowing through her hair.
Four Winds is an EP by the indie rock band Bright Eyes, that was released on March 6, 2007. The title track is the first single from their album Cassadaga. The other 5 tracks are exclusive b-sides from the 2006 recording sessions. It is marketed as being "quietly enchanting" and including "a wandering country charm and all of the story-telling seductiveness of earlier work. The song "Four Winds" was ranked on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
Cassadaga is the seventh studio album by Bright Eyes, released in the UK on April 9, 2007 and in the US on April 10. Around 25 to 30 songs were recorded in 2006, with 13 of these appearing on the final track list. The album is named after the town of Cassadaga, Florida, a community of mediums and followers of spiritualism. Z Berg of the Like, Sherri DuPree and Stacy King of Eisley as well as solo artist Rachael Yamagata all appear on this album

Bright Eyes – Four Winds. Your class, your caste, your country, sect, your name or your tribe There's people always dying, trying to keep them alive There are bodies decomposing in containers tonight In an abandoned building where. A squatter's made a mural of a Mexican girl With fifteen cans of spray paint in a chemical swirl She's standing in the ashes at the end of the world Four winds blowing through her hair. And also, Four Winds may refer to the fact that wind can blow from all directions when everything is destroyed. The image of the girl standing at the end of the world with wind in her hair also falls in place.
A few months ago, I decided to give Bright Eyes another chance. I was in Circuit City one night and I came across Four Winds and Fevers and Mirrors. I bought both of them, and went home and listened to Four Winds first. From the first 10 seconds of the title track, I knew I would love the album. Conor Oberst, in my opinion, is one of the greatest songwriters of the past decade. The lyrics he writes are incredible; especially on this EP. And the musicianship is great too, considering all of the instruments played in their music.
Four Winds" is the rare protest song that actually tries to present an epic vision of America and succeeds. The remaining five non-album tracks on Four Winds expound on the folk-rock sound of the opener, pulling it in different directions, but nothing else hits the mark so squarely- or really at all. "Reinvent the Wheel" is Oberst's "Needle and the Damage Done", but without a needle, or really any damage. It's another ode to a friend, but following the title track, it sounds almost tediously fatuous.
