Gold is a series of two-disc compilation albums released by Universal Music Group. Some include tracks licensed from non-Universal labels. Earlier Gold series compilations had a design based on that of ABBA Gold, such as the compilations for The Carpenters and Etta James.

The most progressive Slayer album. Jeff Hanneman has done his best guitar work here. And the drums and bass are like a symphony. Just the best Slayer album in my opinion. Definitely best since seasons in the abyss. Dave lombardo really injected some much needed creativity.

I literally almost cried when I heard it, said Anderson. Dream Theater’s commercial breakthrough, the disc became their first – and only – gold-selling record, largely on the strength of an unlikely hit single, the hard-rocking, Hamlet-referencing Pull Me Under. At a time when Metallica were exploring proggy odysseys like Blackened and Slayer were plumbing the doomy nether regions south of heaven, Sodom were still thrashing like it was 1983 – maybe even harder.

Slayer’s debut album, Show No Mercy, released in 1983, just five months after Metallica’s Kill ’Em All, placed them at the vanguard of a new movement that was to revolutionise metal music: thrash. Slayer lined up alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax in the so-called Big Four of thrash metal. Certainly Slayer have had their ups and downs. When Lombardo, the best drummer of the thrash era, quit the band for a full decade, Slayer lost their way; they even incorporated elements of nu metal on their 1998 album Diabolus In Musica. But Lombardo’s reinstatement in 2002 put them firmly back on track – until he departed the band for a second time in 2013. Here, we cast our eyes over the heaviest band in music's back catalogue, and pick out the albums essential to any collection. 10. God Hates Us All (2001).

Rowdy Bravado Celebratory Dramatic Rebellious Theatrical Swaggering Confident. Hanging Out Guys Night Out. UFO. Best of UFO: Gold Collection. While it's debatable whether a new best-of was needed, since Essential did its job pretty well, there's no denying that this is a very good collection in its own right, and a perfect starting point.

Of course, it was Slayer, along with fellow Big Four peers Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth, who pretty much codified the style that took heavy metal by storm in the 1980s, spawning several worthy secondary bands and countless hopeless imitators, to say nothing of virtually every subsequent branch of extreme metal: death, black, grind, you name it. And then, when thrash metal’s initial inexorable onslaught gave way to these ensuing musical innovations, beginning in the 1990s, it was the men of Slayer who remained steadfastly loyal to the cause, refusing to pervert their sound so as to fit in w. .

Elvis Christmas Album (1957). 4-1. – Elvis Presley. Santa Claus Is Back In Town. 4-2. There's Gold In The Mountains. One Boy, Two Little Girls.
