Lyrics for Hopes On Hold by Rubén Blades . And hope that the distance disappears Cause everytime we place ourselves in other hands We take a chance by giving up control And second guessing feelings start to fade away And hopes on hold It's not easy to believe in someone else Don't know many people that are true Still I gotta choose between my loneliness and the fear to trust
Ruben Blades - The Hit Lyrics. Ruben Blades - Nothing But the Truth Album Lyrics.
Blades's mother was a cabaret singer who left Cuba to perform in Panama City's nightclubs in the 1940's. There she met Ruben Blades S. a bongo player. Of all the countries in Latin America, Panama may be the most North Americanized. The United States dollar is a basic unit of currency; although Nov. 3 is observed as the nation's independence day, Blades recalls that when he was a child the big fireworks and celebrations were held on July 4, inside the Canal Zone, which was then United States territory. Much of that outrage resurfaces in his forthcoming album, his first in English, tentatively entitled ''Hopes On Hold. It will come with Spanish translations on the liner. Perhaps because he chose to work with Elvis Costello and Lou Reed, Blades has written songs that, when he plays them on his acoustic guitar, sound like protest songs, albeit with a Latin pulse. Blades says he wanted to collaborate with established artists because ''I wasn't sure I could write in English.
Siembra (English: Planting) is an album by Rubén Blades and Willie Colón, released by Fania Records in 1978. It is considered the best selling salsa album in the history of salsa music and Latin music. Siembra is the second of four collaborative duo albums produced by Rubén Blades and Willie Colón. During its time, it was the best-selling salsa record in history.
The song later became his unofficial campaign song when he ran for president of Panama. The Colón and Blades recording on the same album of Tite Curet Alonso's composition, "Plantación Adentro", which dealt with the brutal treatment of Indian natives in Latin America's colonial times, was an enormous hit in various Caribbean countries.
