General Johnson may refer to: General Norman Johnson (1941–2010), American musician. General Johnson may also refer to generals with the surname of Johnson: Charles B. Bulkeley-Johnson (1867 ––1917), British Army Brigadier General. Adam R. "Stovepipe" Johnson (1834–1922), Confederate States Army Brigadier General. Sir Allen Johnson (1829-1907), British Indian Army General. Andrew Johnson (1808–1875), United States Union Army Brigadier General.

General Norman Johnson (May 23, 1941 – October 13, 2010) was the frontman of Chairmen of the Board and an American rhythm and blues songwriter and record producer. Johnson made an early start in music when he began singing in his church choir at the age of six. His recording debut came six years later on Atlantic Records, who recorded his group the Humdingers, although the tracks remain unreleased.

Leader of Chairmen of the Board and a top R&B songwriter/producer as well, General Johnson enjoyed a long career stretching from his debut during the mid-'50s glory days of R&B to his status as a turn-of-the-centur. ead Full Biography.

General Johnson had an instantly recognizable voice and he was in prime form on this bouncy pop-flavored numbers. A far more typical Invictus composition, this song had one of those killer melodies that seemed to effortlessly flow out of the Invictus creative machine – bubblegum soul ? One of the album’s most commercial offerings, it was easy to see why the track was tapped as the lead off single. Wonder what a duet between Johnson and Tony Joe White would have turned ou. uriously Invictus doesn’t seem to have done a great deal to promote the album. As far as I can, they didn’t even release a single off the album. A tribute to General Johnson in our back pages here. The Chairmen Of The Board albums on FMS here.

Born General Norman Johnson in Norfolk, Virginia on May 23, 1941, this talented vocalist and prolific songwriter had, in reality, three distinct aspects to his career. Starting out as the lead vocalist for a group calling themselves The Humdingers, their recording stint at Atlantic in the early 1960s was brief - and unproductive - as the only sides they cut there were never released. 3 R&B and 12 Hot 100 in June/July for Freda. The one drawback to this CD - at least from the point of view of those of us seeking original hit singles - is the fact that the renditions here of his last three charters are the longer album cuts from his 1976 Arista LP "General Johnson" (Arista AL-4082). But the sound quality is excellent and it comes with liner notes written by Tony Rounce, as well as the name of the various musicians and backing vocalists taking part. General Johnson died on October 13, 2010. One person found this helpful.
