Oscar Peterson's first two full-length big-band albums are reissued in full on this single-CD. The Swinging Brass date has arrangements for 11 horns plus Peterson's Trio (which includes bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen) while Bursting Out has the same trio joined by a large orchestra arranged by Ernie Wilkins. There are a couple of short spots for James Moody, Norris Turney and (on "Manteca") Cannonball Adderley but basically the two big bands back the trio

Pianist Oscar Peterson has a rare outing with a big band on this excellent LP. In addition to his usual bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen, Peterson is joined by a particularly strong big band arranged by Ernie Wilkins; there are short solos for several of the sidemen including altoist Norris Turney, James Moody on tenor, and altoist Cannonball Adderley.

OSCAR PETERSON TRIO Bursting Out With The All-Star Big Band 1962 Vinyl LP Jazz. old timer will tell you was the greatest pianist of them all, This big band recording is fantastic, with arrangements by the great Ernie Wilkins, there is plenty of the standard piano trio groovin' but the big band comes in to punctuate the trio, many standards are featured, Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca" gets a brisk no non sense reading, Clifford Brown's "Daahoud".
