1981 studio album by Skids. Joy is the fourth studio album by Scottish punk rock and new wave band Skids. It was their first after the departure of signature guitarist Stuart Adamson, who went on to found Big Country. As such, it represented a change of direction from rock towards folk music, amplifying the traditional Scottish element already hinted at in previous releases. This would be their last album until the release of Burning Cities, over 36 years later. However, elements of this style were hinted at previously, particularly on the Strength Through Joy mini-album. The lyrical concerns of strife, war and brotherhood are Jobson staples. With Paul Wishart on saxophone, "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" is a cover version of the song by Eric Bogle.

1 Strength Through Joy. 7 Personnel. Writing and recording. This album marks the first collaborative effort between Richard Jobson and new bassist Russell Webb, who continued to work together in the band The Armoury Show and also on Jobson's solo album Badman.

1) Strength Through Joy was founded in Adelaide, Australia in 1991 by bassist Timothy Jenn and vocalist Richard Leviathan. Although Jenn had his roots in the gothic musical milieu of Ireland and Leviathan was a bullet-belt wearing black metal fan, the two men seemed to have a lot in common and soon struck up a friendship.

The second album of STRENGTH THROUGH JOY is also great but could not reach the high level of the debut. Though it is a regular 2-disc release, there are basically seven songs that come in two versions each. Again it is inventory and greatly produced by Douglas P. of DEATH IN JUNE; so it is to be recommended to every fan of the genre. Up to this date it was never re-released; so it´s not easy to get for a fair price. So if you can lay your hands upon it, do it! Responder Notifique-me Helpful.
