It takes a village to make The Village. Help us finish our first full-length album and we'll shower you with tokens of love in return! Created by. The Family Crest. We are The Family Crest, an orchestral indie rock band, and we are setting out to mix, master, and print our first full-length record, The Village. Featuring over 100 musicians in California, The Village is the culmination of two years of hard work. We recorded the entire project on our own – bought the recording equipment, learned how to use sound engineering software, traveled all over the state to record the musicians, tracked and re-tracked instruments.

About The Family Crest. Spearheaded by frontman and leader Liam McCormick, the San Francisco-based orchestral indie rock outfit the Family Crest originally began as an experiment in trying to connect a music community. Looking to record with whoever wanted to be part of the project, McCormick, along with co-founder John Seeterlin, reached out through flyers, friends, and the internet, recording music with anyone who responded and piecing it together to create the band's debut EP, 2010's Songs from the Valley Below.
The Family Crest released its album Beneath the Brine in February 2014 and, just with its previous recordings, the San Francisco band set out to capture a plethora of instruments - including bassoon, vibraphone and French horn - in unique places, such as living rooms, churches and cafes across the West Coast. The album is a sweeping soundscape befitting the oceanic theme of the title and what SPIN notes as ambition wide enough to swallow you whole.
The Family Crest plays the most beautifully arranged orchestral pop around, without the slightest hint of pretentiousness. I have seen them twice now (I wish it were more) and both times I was blown away by everyone's energy, musicianship, and amiability. With flute (Laura Bergmann), trombone (George Mousa Samaan), violin (Owen Sutter), cello (Charly Akert), multiple keyboards, auxiliary percussion and the irreplaceable drums (Anthony Franceschi), bass (John Seeterlin) and guitar (Liam McCormick) there is no shortage of ear catching melodies or dance inducing rhythms. Some highlights of the shows include the title track of their 2014 album "Beneath the Brine" on which Liam leads the band in throwing every ounce of heartache into a maelstrom. Laura's flute swirls like the wind, while the rest crash their instruments like waves over the starboard bow.
