Greatest Flamenco Guitarist II. Sabicas (Artist) Format: Vinyl. Volumes 1 & 2 have now appeared on CD together as La Guitarra Flamenca, and Volume 1 is also on The Greatest Flamenco Guitarist. The Elektra discography says: "According to Jac Holzman in FTM ] there were three sessions for this LP before Sabicas and Elektra were satisfied with the results. The stereo LP is probably from a different session to the mono This is a wonderful album nonetheless. Only the arrangement of Capricho Español doesn't really come off, although it is a brave try. However, both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 in their entirety have been issued on the CD La Guitarra Flamenca, so the value of the LP must be judged accordingly. There are multiple versions of the cover.

Before Sabicas flamenco guitar rarely sounded outside of Spain. The situation changed because of the numerous tours of the great musician and increasing popularity of his records. Sabicas created more difficult and interesting guitar music, than it was before. It was a revolution, that impressed everybody. Now we understand that if Sabicas hadn't exist, we wouldn't have listened to the modern flamenco guitar.

Sabicas (Agustín Castellón Campos) was a flamenco guitarist, of Romani origin, who was born on 16 March 1912 in Pamplona, Spain and died on 14 April 1990 in New York City, New York. Sabicas began playing guitar at the age of four and made his performing debut two years later. His early style was influenced by Ramón Montoya, to whom he was related on his mother's side of the family. Extensive collaboration with important cantaores (male flamenco singers) of the period helped him develop his personal style. Rey del Flamenco (book + CD) released: 1999.
