Dinah Shore had only acted eight years previously, in Up in Arms (1944) and Belle of the Yukon (1944), and this was her last major film role Alan Young as Aaron Slick. Dinah Shore as Josie Berry  . English film historian and critic Leslie Halliwell considered Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick to be: " Homespun entertainment based on a staple success of the American provincial theatre, with pleasant songs added. Chores" written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.

After failing singing auditions for the bands of Benny Goodman and both Jimmy Dorsey and his brother Tommy Dorsey, Shore struck out on her own to become the first singer of her era to achieve huge solo success. She had a string of 80 charted popular hits, lasting from 1940 into the late '50s, and after appearing in a handful of films went on to a four-decade career in American television, starring in her own music and variety shows in the '50s and '60s and hosting two talk shows in the '70s.

With Alan Young, Dinah Shore, Robert Merrill, Adele Jergens. Shy farmboy loves his next-door neighbor, but she dreams of going to the big city. Then she gets mixed up with big-city gangsters. It's not that ALAN YOUNG and DINAH SHORE don't try to bring some life to a lifeless, uninspired script co-authored by Claude Binyon, who directed this mess. Considering what they have to work with, they sometimes rise to the occasion and produce a few chuckles.
