Welcome to the Blackout (Live London ’78). Welcome to the Blackout (Live London ’78) is a live album by David Bowie recorded on the Isolar II Tour.
Blackout hails from the final two nights of the Isolar 2 Tour in London on June 30th and July 1st 1978. Not much had changed in two months. Sure, there are some nuanced differences in the performances. Recorded just a few months after the concerts that comprised the Stage album (nicely remastered in 2017), Welcome to the Blackout sees Bowie and his band in absolute top form. Special shout-out to bassist George Murray and drummer Dennis Davis, Bowie's extraordinary - and often unheralded - rhythm section at this time. But whereas Stage sounds somewhat chilly and mannered, Welcome to the Blackout is warm and buoyant (though, of course, "warm and buoyant" is relative when discussing the gorgeous futuristic instrumentals from Low and Heroes).
