The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers' hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened its name to The Gap Band in 1973. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010.
Many Gap Band fans think that 1979's The Gap Band was the Wilson Brothers' first album, but, in fact, it was their third. Before becoming well-known, they recorded 1974's Magician's Holiday for Shelter and 1977's The Gap Band (which shouldn't be confused with this album, although both are self-titled) for Tattoo. However, this release marked several firsts for the Gap Band - it was their first album for Mercury, their first collaboration with producer Lonnie Simmons, and the first Gap Band album that was commercially successful

Heaven, (I Don't Think That We Should) Take It Slow, and Elizabeth showcase the band at their best-swirling, reverb-drenched guitar chords, intertwined with shimmering male/female vocals-while Outer Space and Without You slow it down a bit and throw hazy, psychedelic guitar riffs into the mix. The obvious comparison to the Creation Records sound in its heyday is appropriate, yet LSD have definitely taken that noise . jemiahj I can listen to this album on repeat for an entire day, and keep hearing new nuances and details that make me smile. On the heels of releasing Heaven Is a Place, the trip continues. In addition to more shows across the . and Canada, LSD makes their European debut on a month-long tour in spring 2016, starting with the Cosmosis Festival in Manchester alongside The Jesus and Mary Chain, Wire, and The Raveonettes.

The Gap Band's first album, Magician's Holiday, was released in 1974 to little fanfare. A self-titled album followed three years later; despite guest appearances from . Rogers, Reverend James Cleveland, Chaka Khan, Leon Russell, and Les McCann, it didn't leave any chart impressions, either, though it did feature a pair of minor hits in "Out of the Blue (Can You Feel It)" - an excellent, mellow, electric piano-driven song written. A deal with Mercury put the Gap Band on the fast track. A self-titled 1979 album reached number ten on Billboard's R&B chart, led by the success of "Shake" (number four R&B) and "Open Up Your Mind" (number 13 R&B). They followed it later in the year with The Gap Band II, an album that spawned two more Top Ten R&B singles. Released in 1980, The Gap Band III was their first number one R&B album, where their sound became even more distinctive.
