The place is the Whisky A Go-Go on the Sunset Strip and, as usual, there's a line of Cadillacs and Rolls Royces plus Morris Minors and Hondas waiting to get in. Yesterday this was the story, it is today and will be tomorrow, and when Johnny's there, the lines will be the longest. The inside of the Whisky is something else, especially when Johnny's there. By the way, the album title doesn't mean re-released tracks but means a return to the scene during Johnny's recent stand. The second side is the first complete version of "John Lee Hooker" on record. It's here because of requests, requests from all the minks and capris so they could live Johnny's once-a-night big closer over and over. You'll know why when you hear it. It's a gas, in fact, the whole album is. It's a happening album with happening people. you'll know what I mean.

Whisky A Go-Go Revisited. In 1967, Johnny Rivers was slowly but surely moving into more musically adventurous territory with his albums Changes, Rewind, and Realization when he made one of the last of many LPs recorded at the signature Los Angeles rock club where he first gained fame, the Whisky A Go-Go. Whisky A Go-Go Revisited's first side was very much in the manner of his other live albums, with Rivers and his combo - including the great Larry Knechtel on organ - stomping through a handful of dance-friendly rock and R&B numbers, with Rivers' muscular guitar work and confident vocals making the most.

Notes

The place is the Whisky A Go-Go on the Sunset Strip and, as usual, there's a line of Cadillacs and Rolls Royces plus Morris Minors and Hondas waiting to get in. Yesterday this was the story, it is today and will be tomorrow, and when Johnny's there, the lines will be the longest.

The inside of the Whisky is something else, especially when Johnny's there. Minks and ermines brush with cotton capris and poor boy sweaters. They're all there for Johnny, the man. He'll casually approach the stage, look around at the guys backing him and strike a few notes signaling that the meeting's about to begin. Maybe he'll throw a casual smile at some matronly woman out exploring; she blushes because it's her first time (J.R. knows this and welcomes her); she'll be back. The sounds are for everyone and everyone grooves. When Johnny lays his music on them, the minks and capris all become one out there. That's the way they like it; that's the way Johnny likes it. These are the sounds that made the Whisky what it is and the man called Rivers had a lot to do with it.
