The Animals is the self-titled debut studio album by British R&B/blues rock band the Animals. It was released in the United Kingdom in November 1964 on EMI's Columbia Records. The album reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and held that position for a total of 20 weeks. Eric Burdon – lead vocals. Hilton Valentine – guitar, vocals. Alan Price – keyboards, vocals. Chas Chandler – bass, vocals. John Steel – drums and percussion. Mickie Most – producer. Val Valentin – engineer.

The discography of The Animals, an English music group of the 1960s formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, contains 20 studio albums, 6 compilation albums, 5 EPs and 25 singles. Featuring a gritty, bluesy sound and a deep-voiced frontman in Eric Burdon, they are best known for their rendition of an American folk song named "House of the Rising Sun", which is described by many as their signature song.

This is actually a bootleg re-release of the group's 1966 Animalism album, enhanced with the presence of eight bonus tracks. The title is a kind of non sequitur (when did any version of the Animals totally abandon blues?), but it resurrects the really cool cover shot off of Animalism. The bonus cuts, some of which have shown up on Raven Records' Roadrunners CD, are attributed to live BBC sessions and include the 1966 Animals lineup as well as the subsequent version of the band: Eric Burdon and Barry Jenkins with Vic Briggs, John Wieder, and Danny McCulloch
