Chicago (sometimes referred to as Chicago II) is the second studio album by Chicago-based American rock band Chicago. Like their debut album, Chicago Transit Authority, this was a double album. It was their first album under the name Chicago (the band's prior name, Chicago Transit Authority, was changed due to a threatened lawsuit from the Chicago Transit Authority) and the first to use the now ubiquitous cursive Chicago logo on the cover

Chicago Transit Authority is the self-titled debut album by the Chicago-based rock band Chicago Transit Authority, later known as Chicago. It was recorded and released in 1969. For this inaugural recording effort the group was nominated for a Grammy Award for 1969 Best New Artist of the Year. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.

Chicago (sometimes referred to as Chicago II) is the second studio album by Chicago-based American rock band Chicago. It was released in 1970 after the band had shortened its name from The Chicago Transit Authority following the release of their self-titled debut album the previous year (to avoid legal action being threatened by the actual mass-transit company).

The contents of Chicago II (1970) underscore the solid foundation of complex jazz changes with heavy electric rock & roll that the band so brazenly forged on the first set. The septet also continued its ability to blend the seemingly divergent musical styles into some of the best and most effective pop music of the era. One thing that had changed was the band's name, which was shortened to simply Chicago to avoid any potential litigious situations from the city of Chicago's transportation department - which claimed the name as proprietary property.

In 1971 the five men returned to Chicago, prepared to find their place in the now-burgeoning free music scene across America. Although an album consisting entirely of one largely improvised 40-minute piece might not be appealing to the average listener, this earliest Art Ensemble effort from their Paris days has been loved, studied, and emulated for more than 45 years. It covers the gamut of emotions from fear and anger to love and laughter, with deep silences balanced by keening roars, all intended to reflect the pain and hope of the human condition. This album might represent the fullest distillation of all that the Art Ensemble had built upon in twenty-odd years of togetherness.
