Chris Forsyth is one such dude. Where do we pitch him? Tom Verlaine with more guile, Richard Thompson without the vocals possibly even Steve Hillage. He is a strange amalgam of all three but is certainly not short of ideas. Either solo as in this case or with his Solar Motel Band he always has something new to say. On his Solar Motel band album Rarity of Experience he went down the Miles Davis/John McLaughlin route on The first ten minutes of cocksucker blues. On the last album Dreaming the Non-Dream the title track went into dance territory with the title track having Stevie Wonder Echoes

The sprawling double album All Time Present is a sampler pack of Forsyth's strongest impulses, offering up just eight mostly instrumental pieces but stretching out in different directions over the course of its hour-plus playing time. Though All Time Present is the first work billed as a solo album since 2013's Solar Motel, Forsyth is bolstered by various players on every track.

The album starts off with what Forsyth does best - Tomorrow Might As Well Be Today is a sweeping yet straightforward instrumental track that sets the scene for the rest of the album. It’s immediately countered with the 9-minute long Mystic Mountain, a dark, moody journey of a song that sees Forsyth introducing vocals for added depth. Forsyth is joined by bassist Peter Kerlin, t Shawn Edward Hansen and drummer Ryan Jewell on All Time Present, which also features guest appearances from Rosali Middleman and Jeff Zeigler

In 2013, he assembled The Solar Motel Band, who quickly developed a reputation as an incredible live act, provoking comparisons to visionary artists such as Television, The Grateful Dead, Popol Vuh, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and Richard Thompson. Work commenced on a new album in summer 2018 and continued through the autumn. Recorded with longtime producer/engineer Jeff Zeigler and various members of past Solar Motel Band lineups including bassist Peter Kerlin (Sunwatchers), drummer Ryan Jewell (Ryley Walker) and Kansas City-based keyboardist Shawn E. Hansen, All Time Present reveals that while his dazzling musicianship can always be taken for granted, it’s hardly the whole story.
