Set track as current obsession. Helen Watts, Philomusica of London & Thurston Dart. Hoffmann: Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde, Cantata BWV 53. Overview (current section). Cantatas Nos. 53, 54, 200; Erbarme dich.

Of course, that positive outcome has as much to do with the quality of the vocal soloists (Helen Watts Arleen Auger and Phillipe Huttenlocher outstanding among them), choral singing (nice balance, good diction, sometimes too prominent vibrato) and ensemble playing (not quite in the class of Richter's Munich Bach Orchestra, but expert), as with Rilling's intelligent and unfussy direction.

Thurston Dart (Conductor, Harpsichord). Born: September 3, 1921 - London (or Kingston), England Died: March 6, 1971 - London, England. The eminent English musicologist, keyboard player and conductor (Robert), Thurston Dart, was educated at Hampton Grammar School. He was a chorister at the Chapel Royal in Hampton Court. He studied keyboard instruments at the Royal College of Music in London from 1938 to 1939. In 1947 Thurston Dart became an assistant lecturer in music at the University of Cambridge, then a full lecturer in 1952, a finally a professor of music in 1962. In 1952 he also granted a fellowship at Jesus College, Cambridge. His academic tenure at Cambridge during the early 1960's was marred by intra-faculty disputes and ended in 1964 when he accepted the King Edward Professorship of Music at King’s College of the University of London.

Apart from his hundreds of church cantatas, Johann Sebastian Bach wrote secular cantatas in Weimar, Köthen and Leipzig, for instance for members of the Royal-Polish and Prince-electoral Saxonian family (. Trauer-Ode), or other public or private occasions (. The text of these cantatas was occasionally in dialect (. Peasant Cantata) or in Italian (.

This release featuring three familiar Bach cantatas, with an assortment of uniformly good Austrian soloists, will give those who may not have been around the first time a taste of the old bad-boy Harnoncourt. Try especially the most famous Bach cantata of all, the Cantata No. 140, "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme," BWV 140 (Sleepers awake, a voice is calling), for an example of the clipped notes that are among Harnoncourt 's trademarks

Bach and baroque music, I have got a challenge: upload all the arrangement of Bach's organ works, and maybe more, like cantatas, pieces of the Well Tempered Clavier, etc. If you are interested in all those works, you can have a look at my dashboard and I would be pleased if you decide to follow me. Thank you very much for your attention, and god bless you all ! Johann Sebastian Bach.
