Under the Blacklight is the fourth and final full-length studio album released by American alternative rock band Rilo Kiley. It was released on August 20, 2007, in the United Kingdom - three years and three days after the release of their third album, More Adventurous. Records released the album one day later in the United States. Silver Lining" was No. 27 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

Under the Blacklight, Rilo Kiley's 2007 major-label debut, is surely designed as the Los Angeles quartet's entry into the big leagues, the album that makes them cross over to a mass audience - or perhaps it's just meant to make their now de facto leader, Jenny Lewis, cross over, since it plays as a sequel to her 2006. solo stab, Rabbit Fur Coat, as much as it plays as the successor to 2004's More Adventurous, putting the former child right out front, bathing in the spotlight.

This week, we’ll tackle Rilo Kiley’s fourth and final studio album, Under the Blacklight. So here’s the thing about this 2007 release: It was spectacularly OK. With the exception of the heavy handed Dejalo, nothing on the record was particularly bad. Rilo Kiley’s major-label debut, 2007’s Under the Blacklight, is an unapologetic leap toward pristine and straightforward pop-a vast departure from their heavier indie-rock inclinations shown on 2004’s More Adventurous. Whether they’re channelling Fleetwood Mac’s poppier phase on the breathy Dreamworld or boldly bringing in the brass section on the blue-eyed soul jam of 15, it’s frontwoman Jenny Lewis’ stellar songwriting that stands out. There comes a time in the career of every band when they must stand up and be counted, a time when a band needs to make a record to really cement their place within their scene and prove their worth. Generally speaking this happens around the third or fourth record, no serious band can make the same album forever despite what the punk scene would have you believe  . Perhaps the greatest example of what Under the Blacklight represents is the uncomfortably themed 15. Blues guitar licks weave their way over a laid back rhythm section, before bursting into a majestic chorus with a hook as a big as any your will hear this year.
