The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s

Southwest blues" refers not to the greater American southwest, but the southwestern segment of the blues scene, running along the Gulf of Mexico coastal states between Arkansas and Texas. Then again, was anyone playing blues in the real American southwest? Probably not, so you can see their point. Volume one opens with half a dozen numbers from pianist Jay McShann's orchestra, split between a trio of singers, including the revered Jimmy Witherspoon. The vocalists are impressive, but even Witherspoon can only barely overshadow McShann's sensational piano playing.

I love the Moody Blues and have followed them since the beginning. I was really looking forward to this book. Of course when one encounters obvious mistakes in a book such as this, it puts the rest of the information in question. On page 2 the author states that Steve Winwood had been in Cream. Mr. Cushman is obviously also a great fan of the band and treats their history with the reverence they deserve. Moody Blues music is immortal in the minds of fans like myself, and this author assures the band's early history has been faithfully documented. Two of the founding members, Mike Pinder and the late Ray Thomas, contributed interviews to this book to help set the record straight.
