Butterfly is the second studio album released by British band the Hollies in 1967, their seventh in England overall. It was also the last new Hollies album to feature Graham Nash until 1983's What Goes Around. This album, like its predecessors For Certain Because and Evolution, featured songs written solely by Allan Clarke, Graham Nash, and Tony Hicks. The album was a Nash-led project, and he featured as the lead vocalist more than on any prior album.

This late 1967 album found the Hollies making some modest adjustments to the psychedelic era: occasionally trippy studio effects, a sitar on their most psychedelic track ("Maker"), songs that didn't always deal with boy-girl relationships. In fact, however, the group's focus remained where it usually was: modest but pleasing, similar-sounding catchy tunes with high harmonies and strumming guitars.

Butterfly's lead single, the excellent "King Midas In Reverse", didn't do much on the charts, and following this album, the rest of the Hollies opted to try an album of Bob Dylan covers next. Meanwhile, Graham Nash is as inspired as ever, trying and failing to make "Marrakesh Express" work with the group. So, that's where the Hollies' creative peak comes to an end, and where the cocaine-fueled years of Crosby, Stills and Nash begin.

Butterfly" is the second of two 1967 albums by The Hollies. It was also the last new Hollies album to feature Graham Nash until 1983's "What Goes Around". "Dear Eloise" was issued as a single A-side, but "Try It" and "Elevated Observations?" were issued as B-sides. In 1978, Parlophone reissued "Butterfly" with new cover art. Almost all current CD issues of this album contain the original cover art. Track listing.

Butterfly" is often regarded the strongest album by the Hollies. Released in 1967 it was to be last to feature high-pitch vocalist Graham Nash, who left in late 1968 to join David Crosby and Steve Stills. All 3 album contains some of the finest songwriting the Hollies ever did. Their playing and singing is impeccable like on most of their recordings - some might say that their lyrics at times tend to be a little too naive or silly.
