Dutch Schultz, whose real name was Arthur Flegenheimer made his name and fortune in bootlegging alcohol and the numbers racket. In an effort to avert his conviction, Schultz asked the Commission for permission to take out Dewey, which they declined. He lasted for about 22 hours in the hospital before dying. Being in and out of consciousness, and probably dosed up on drugs to help the pain he uttered some random last words: A boy has never wep. or dashed a thousand kin. You can play jacks, and girls do that with a soft ball and do tricks with it. Oh, Oh, dog Biscuit, and when he is happy he doesn’t get snappy. How useful was this post?
With Dj Mendel, Alexander Anthony. The Last Words Of Dutch Schultz' is comprised verbatim from the deathbed transcripts of the gangster Dutch Schultz. Using found footage (everything from 1930's era travelogues, FBI training films, silents, newsreels, television serials, to golden era 1930 Hollywood films) the film takes place entirely within the mind of the dying gangster. It is discontinuous, non chronological, devoid of any.
Dutch Schultz was a New York City-area Jewish-American mobster of the 1920s and 1930s who made his fortune in organized crime-related activities, including bootlegging and the numbers racket. In an attempt to avert his conviction, Schultz asked the Commission for permission to kill Dewey, which they refused. In the mid 1920s, Schultz had begun work as a bouncer at the Hub Social Club, a small speakeasy in the Bronx, owned by a gangster named Joey Noe. Noe was impressed with Schultz's ruthlessness and reputation for brutality when he lost his temper, and made him a partner. Together they soon opened more illegal drinking joints around the Bronx.
Schultz would drop out of school in the eighth grade to help support himself and his mother. From 1916 to 1919, he worked as a feeder and pressman for the Clark Loose Leaf Company, Caxton Press, American Express, and Schultz Trucking in the Bronx. He then worked at a neighborhood night club owned by a minor mobster, and began robbing craps games before turning to burglary.
Thom Yorke's tortured lyrics give the album a melancholy undercurrent, as does the surging, textured music. It makes the record compelling upon first listen, but it reveals new details with each listen, and soon it becomes apparent that with The Bends, Radiohead have reinvented anthemic rock.
