Paul Simon is the second solo studio album by American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. It was released in January 1972, nearly two years after he split up with longtime musical partner Art Garfunkel. His first solo album was recorded in England in 1965 but remained unreleased in the . except for a brief period in 1969) until 1981, when it appeared in the 5-LP Collected Works boxed set. Originally released on Columbia Records, Paul Simon was then issued under the Warner Bros.
During his distinguished career Paul Simon has been the recipient of many honors and awards including 12 Grammy Awards, three of which ( Bridge Over Troubled Water, Still Crazy After All These Years and Graceland ) were albums of the year. In 2003 he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel. Jerry Landis, Vol. 2. Paul Simon. So Beautiful or So What.
Surprise is the eleventh solo studio album by American musician Paul Simon, released in May 2006. It peaked at on the Billboard 200. After the relative success of You're the One, which was released in late 2000 finding Simon back to the Top 20 of the American charts after ten years of absence and also receiving a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, Paul Simon spent most of the following two years promoting the album.
Album, 1972, Warner Music Group. 1. Mother and Child Reunion.
Paul Simon is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Simon's musical career has spanned seven decades, with his fame and commercial success beginning as half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel. Paul Simon was responsible for writing nearly all of the pair's songs, including three that reached number one on the . singles charts: "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", and "Bridge over Troubled Water". Paul Simon began a successful solo career, recording three acclaimed albums over five years. In 1986, he released Graceland, an album inspired by South.
Graceland is Paul Simon’s seventh solo studio album and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1987. Coming off the commercial disappointment of Hearts and Bones and the end of his marriage to actress Carrie Fisher, Simon became fascinated with the Afrikaans music of South Africa. Despite the cultural embargo placed on the nation at the time due to the apartheid, Simon recorded the album with several South African musicians, and toured with them in support of the album. I don’t like the idea that people who aren’t adolescents make records. Adolescents make the best records. Except for Paul Simon. Except for Graceland. He’s hit a new plateau there, but he’s writing to his own age group.
Paul Simon began his legendary career as half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, then soared to new musical heights with the release of his groundbreaking Graceland album. He has worked with musicians all over the world, had dozens of hits, and continues to release new music to critical acclaim. He was selected as one of the "100 People Who Shaped the World" by Time magazine in 2006. Paul Simon was born on October 13, 1941, to Jewish-American parents living in New Jersey, and grew up in Forest Hills, NY. As a singer-songwriter known for his cerebral compositions, it seems.
