The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Initially known as The Sisterhood, the band was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams (both from The Sisters of Mercy), soon adding drummer Mick Brown (Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler (Artery and Pulp). Aside from Hussey, the line-up has changed several times during the years and the band has been on hiatus twice.
Anthony Joseph Mahoney (born 29 September 1959) is an English retired professional football forward who played in the Football League for Fulham, Brentford and Crystal Palace. He later forged a career in non-league football and played a decade with Canvey Island. Mahoney is the sixth-youngest-ever Fulham debutant. Mahoney began his career as a trainee with Second Division club Fulham.
Band on stage: The Mission. Somehow bands like New Model Army, Sisters of Mercy and The Mission evoke so much emotion and energy with their fans that it always results in pure electricity when both come together in a venue. Just like those bands mentioned, their fans have physically become thirty year older, but the passion somehow has not faded a single bit and maybe even has become stronger, which is fantastic because passion for music or any other form of art is not age related

The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States due to a naming clash with a Philadelphia R&B band) is a goth band formed in 1986 in Leeds, England from the splinters of the freshly-dissolved goth band The Sisters of Mercy. The band's original lineup consisted of Wayne Hussey (vocals, guitar), Craig Adams (bass), Simon Hinckler (guitar) and Mick Brown (drums).
The group will release The Mission on June 16 - four days before Styx begins its summer tour with REO Speedwagon. The album - whose opening track "Gone Gone Gone" is premiered below - was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, co-produced and co-written with Will Evankovich, a longtime collaborator of Tommy Shaw's in the Shaw/Blades band and who also plays with The Guess Who. The Mission was under wraps - not only from fans, but for a time from Shaw's bandmates. It's been kind of secretive from the very beginning," Shaw tells Billboard. To me it's The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight.
