Little Feat is the first studio album by the rock band Little Feat. It was released in 1971 on Warner Bros. The album was recorded mostly during sessions between August and September 1970. Its sound is in a similar vein as the band's more widely known later recordings, such as 1973's Dixie Chicken and 1978's Waiting For Columbus. The record features Little Feat's Mk. 1 line-up, with Roy Estrada on bass. It was the first of eight albums by the band before its initial 1979 break-up.

Lowell George played slide guitar, sang and wrote some memorable songs, leading his band Little Feat all over the world as one of the biggest acts of the 70. Lowell and friends play ‘Dixie Chicken’ for ‘Midnight Special’; Lowell George Discography. Beautiful music and astonishing value as Warners release the first five Little Feat albums in a single box set at an amazing price. Original album series; little feat. Lowell’s superb guitar technique had made him a popular session player, appearing on the work of Bonnie Raitt, Harry Nilsson, John Sebastian, Jackson Browne and John Cale among many others

Lowell George with Linda Ronstadt Willin’ Live at WHFS bootleg, 1974. I mentioned WHFS when I wrote about Robyn Hitchcock’s cover of More Than This, and here is a recording from their 70s incarnation, a free-form DJs paradise, with a loose mandate to play anything you wanted that wasn’t a hit. Before becoming the place to hear British imports and American indie rock it was the place to hear deep cut Zappa, Ramones, and Emmylou Harris  . 1973’s Dixie Chicken was the third album for Little Feat and a pivotal point for the Lowell George-led group. The band line-up expanded to six with the addition of three new members and departure of one.

Only 17 left in stock (more on the way). I lost all my Little Feat albums in a nasty divorce, this fine collection got me the Feat Fix I've been craving (I even like the band without Lowell). i saw them on one of their first major tours, they opened for Sly and Family Stone at Washington University in 71 or 72. I was really into the Allman Brothers and slide guitar playing.

Although George is firmly in charge - he dominates the record, writing or co-writing seven of the 10 songs - this is the point where Little Feat found its signature sound as a band, and no album they would cut from this point on was too different from this seductive, laid-back, funky record. Partially due to the New Orleans infatuation, the album holds together better than Sailin' Shoes and George takes full advantage of the band's increased musical palette, writing songs that sound easy but are quite sophisticated, such as the rolling "Two Trains," the gorgeous, shimmering "Juliette," the deeply soulful and funny "Fat Man in the Bathtub" and the country-funk of the title.

As the guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter for Little Feat, Lowell George was one of the biggest cult heroes of the '70s, creating a body of work that was deeply set within the blues tradition yet fiercely idiosyncratic and weird. It was the kind of music that earns a large cult following, but doesn't guarantee good covers, since its very quirkiness is among its most appealing traits. Basically, it's a question of matching the right artist with the right song, something that happens about half of the time on Rock N Roll Doctor (A Tribute to Lowell George). songs can live on, provided that the artists perform them with as much imagination as he wrote them with.
