Aphrodite's second album starts with an in-flight announcement skit. Apt, as he immediately follows it up with a jet-powered journey around his world of crowd-pleasing drum 'n' bass. If you look out of your window you'll see chunks of the Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack rammed into the sampler, Indian vocals and tabla drum programming, and the vocal booth filled with old school legends from New York Rap to Jamaican reggae. The bassline was inspired by a much earlier track I did under the alias Aladdin. On Aftershock, I would lay lower octave sine waves under the bass. You can't hear it as much, because it was all done by ea. Calcutta.

Far too busy making DJ appearances around the world in front of awed fans to turn out LPs, Aphrodite's Gavin King finally followed up his production debut - which was basically a history lesson, anyway - with the guest-heavy Aftershock. Aphrodite introduces the record with a solid break track named "Heat Haze," then turns to rapper Rah Digga for "Put a Cut on It," an OK rap track.

Androrim

This is reminiscent of the days when I first listened to D&B (Rock the Funky Beat, etc) but now it's not worth the money. Biggest problems: too-drawn out and formulaic, songs take too long to build-up, even for D&B. The rapping and ethnic instruments are novel, but they don't do much to help. It just sounds too empty to me. *goes back to listening The Dungeonmaster's Guide*

Cordanius

A decent release, but it's starting to feel like he's making the same tracks over and over... same wobbly bassline, same drumsounds, same build-ups. If he doesn't totally renew himself soon, he'll dig his own grave. When I first got into d&b i thought his releases was the best ever, but now in retrospect I realise that it was just the same record over and over all the time, with some different intro every time.
