Without You" is a song written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Welsh rock group Badfinger, and first released on their 1970 album No Dice. The power ballad has been recorded by over 180 artists, and versions released as singles by Harry Nilsson (1971) and Mariah Carey (1994) became international best-sellers. Paul McCartney once described the ballad as "the killer song of all time". In 1972, writers Ham and Evans received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
His work is characterized by pioneering vocal overdub experiments, returns to the Great American Songbook, and fusions of Caribbean sounds.
Album Nilsson Schmilsson. No, I can't forget this evening Or your face as you were leaving But I guess that's just the way the story goes You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows Yes, it shows. No, I can't forget tomorrow When I think of all my sorrow When I had you there but then I let you go And now it's only fair that I should let you know What you should know. I can't live if living is without you I can't live, I can't give anymore I can't live if living is without you I can't give, I can't give anymore.
Harry Nilsson provided The Monkees with a hit in Cuddly Toy," and took Three Dog Night up the charts with One. His debut album Pandemonium Shadow Show (1967) garnered critical acclaim but failed to generate impressive sales. That came later when Nilsson hit the airwaves via such songs as Everybody’s Talkin’ (Fred Neil’s theme to Midnight Cowboy) and Nilsson’s own infectious Coconut, as well as the quirky but enjoyable Spaceman. If you’re still not quite ready to sit down and watch the fascinating documentary Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talking About Him?) (2010), here are a half dozen reasons that may sway you in that direction.
The infamous Harry Nilsson album, produced by John Lennon, during his lost weekend period. During the recording of this albumPaul McCartney and Stevie Wonder visited the studio for a jam (which later appeared in the Bootlet ‘A Toot and a Snore’), as well as screaming competition between artist and producer which lead to Harry causing permanent damage to his vocal chords. The record itself starts poorly with two covers, Many Rivers to Cross is followed by Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues, which lacks the charm and whit. This song doesn’t require a saxophone solo, thanks
Found on Nilsson sings Newman (1970), and later on Harry Nilsson: Greatest Hits (1983). This is problably the best song ive ever heard. Best cut off a brilliant album that Nilsson didn't need to do. I've heard a dozen versions of the tune - nobody else comes near this. Just piano and that voice. Chills whenever I hear it. And not even in my top ten Nilsson recordings. But certainly among his best albums. about 5 years ago. TheBrandon425 In reply to Sean Winkel. This song and this album are true hidden masterpieces.
