Screen Memories is the fourth studio album by American musician John Maus, released on October 27, 2017. The album was his first set of newly-recorded music since We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves (2011). Recorded in two years at his Austin, Minnesota home, most of the its subject matter concerns apocalyptic themes inspired by the newsfeed of world events he garnered while making the LP. Some of its song structures and melodies were created with the aid of an artificial neural network.
The Creative Process, Berlin was originally two 7"s scheduled to be released by Revelation Records before that label ran into some problems. It would've been an ideal fit, too - the sprawling music of Memorial is in line with the post-hardcore heavyweights that worked with Revelation in its heyday: bands like Texas Is the Reason and Quicksand, among others. Alas, FlightPlan Records picked up the slack and gave us these two releases on one 12" record, and we should be thankful they did.
It started with the 2014 Conference of Western Balkan States, Berlin, followed by the 2015 Vienna Summit, 2016 Paris Summit and the 2017 Trieste Summit. The last conference was held in July 2018 in London
Thus, the longest process of the whole album was to actually create the template that I’ve been working with . I believe that the creative synergy that happens in the moment when you’re working with a performer in a studio is way stronger than when you just have a remote session. Nonetheless, it worked out great and I’m really happy with the results. Listen to the title track Elements feat.
The memorial working group. Facilitating the establishment of decentral living memorials in Sierra Leone. The first phase of our project in Sierra Leone engaged four communities who – within a short period of time – developed ideas revolving around the memorial trees and performed the rites. The ceremonies were held as follows: 15th of February 2014: Madina in Kambia District 1st of March 2014: Old Port Loko in Port Loko District 15th of March 2014: Kissi Town in Western Rural District 17th of June 2014: Njaiama Nimikor in Kono District.
The design of this memorial allows the tourist to really get a real feel for how the wall was experienced by the people living in Berlin at the time. Date of experience: July 2019.
David Bowie moved to Berlin in the mid-70s in the grip of a cocaine addiction. But the city purged his demons and pushed him to new creative heights. Rory MacLean remembers their nights in his Hauptstraße flat – and one wild night out with Iggy. I am a generalist! he told me one day on the set, meaning he was a Renaissance man, skilled in different fields and mediums.
